"Our Morals demand it. Our workers deserve it. Our state's economy will be better off for it."

N.C. State Treasurer Richard Moore

The Coalition Begins

Welcome to the home of the One Dollar More Coalition, a group dedicated to the goal of raising the North Carolina minimum wage by at least one dollar. Our efforts began soon after North Carolina State Treasurer Richard Moore made a landmark January speech in support of raising our state’s minimum wage. In front of the North Carolina Citizens for Business and Industry and North Carolina Bankers Association, Treasurer Moore made an impassioned economic and moral argument in favor of raising our state’s minimum wage. It is now up to the state legislature to make this change.

The Need for State Action

To date, at least nineteen states have had the vision, strength and sense to do what is right for their workers and families. These states have not waited for Washington’s leadership – they know that Congress will not act on this issue. It has now been nine years since the last federal increase and there are no signs that one will come any time soon. North Carolina has never shrunk from leadership roles. In areas from curbing predatory lending to increasing educational accountability, we have done the right thing for our people when federal leadership was lacking.
